The undeniable relief that envelops you when you see that well-dressed lady in the park at 7.19 am, walking her Boston Terrier and fighting with the dog as it is licking up pigeon shit off the ground.

And you will inevitably think that this couldn’t’ve happened under the Catholic Monarchs. Fernando stares you down, holding a stick in his right hand and looking deader than the marble block he’s standing on. The stick is supposed to instill the fear of god in every citizen in the kingdom. However, it only looks like something he’s about to throw to a dog to fetch it. Perhaps to the Boston Terrier the lady is arguing with. But the dog couldn’t care less. It keeps lapping up pigeon shit from the dirt.

The eclipse is now over. It wasn’t a full eclipse, but good enough. 97.1 per cent in the northernmost corner of the park. All things considered—no one got hurt. Not the Boston terrier, not its owner, and, most importantly, neither of the Monarchs.
